The next day he (Paul) and Barnabas left for Derbe. Acts 14:20b
City: "A border town in the southeastern part of the Lycaonian region of Galatia
(about 60 miles from Lystra; home of Gaius). An inscription naming the city has been
discovered about 30 miles east of what was previously thought to be the city site."
(NIV Study Bible:1673)
Summary: They preached the good news in Derbe and were very successful. They made many
converts and disciples in that city. After this, Paul and Barnabas travelled back through Lystra,
Iconium, and Antioch, strengthening and encouraging the disciples in each city to continue in the
faith. They took time to appoint elders in every church, spending time to fast and to pray with them,
commending them to the Lord.
